The sperm can stay alive for up to 5 days but the egg can only survive for 24 hours. You could just ensure a big bash (of sperm )just before the guest of honor (the egg) shows up. That way the sperm will not miss the target.

Ovulation tests won't tell you the exact time you will ovulate, but it will give you heads up that it is coming(you'd have to chart your basal body temps to be accurate for when ovulation occurred.) When you detect your LH surge on your test it means you will ovulate sometime in the next 24- 36 hours, once you ovulate you have approx. 12- 24 hours before the egg will no longer be viable for fertilization. They say to have sex every other day during this time(especially for couples where the male has a lower sperm count), but have also read that once a day during this time as well doesn't hurt. You want to have sex the days leading up to it as well as the day of ovulation. Sperm can survive in your body about 3-5 days waiting for the egg to be released.
Look for that stretchy egg white cervical mucous as an indicator, which every women is different so you might not notice it as much as someone else. if you get too much sex means the sperm is not as its best..
