How long do I have to wait to have unprotected sex?

So, I have been in this new relationship for about two months now and everything is going well. I am on the pill and we have unprotected sex now. I am under the impression that i have to wait two weeks after i start having unprotected sex because it takes time to for the pill to work or something like that but my doctor never mentioned anything of that sort. I'm just want to know if its true and how long was i suppose to wait? How long do I have to wait to have unprotected sex?The length of time it takes for the birth control to become completely effective as a sole contraceptive varies depending on the type of pill you use and when you start the packet of pills. You will usually need to use an alternative form of contraception (such as a condom) for at least seven days after starting, but your health care provider should be able to tell you exactly when the particular version of the pill you have been prescribed becomes fully effective against pregnancy. It will normally also say on the advice leaflet that comes with your pills.

It is also worth remembering that taking other medications such as antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill, and your doctor may recommend that you use an additional form of protection during this time. Similarly, stomach upsets such as sickness and diarrhea can affect the absorption of the pill, so again, using an additional method such as a condom can help make sure pregnancy doesn't occur.

Using condoms as well as the birth control pill can protect both you and your partner from STIs as well as providing extra protection against pregnancy. How long do I have to wait to have unprotected sex?
It takes a little longer then 2 weeks for the pill to take effect. It also has to be taken every day religiously in order to work properly. Your partner should also be willing to be committed to you and only having sex with you.

You and your partner should also be tested for stds before having unprotected sex. If he has had sexual partners before you then it's like having sex with every one he had sex with. He could have even picked up some thing from a past partner that he doesn't know about. Get tested now and regularly so that you know your status. How long do I have to wait to have unprotected sex?You say you are in a new relationship and are having unprotected sex have you both been tested for HIV or any other STD's? Have you thought about the consequences if your partner is infected with anything or vice-versa? The consequences can be deadly. Please be very careful you may not get pregnant but think of the other things you can get. Your partner doesn't have to look ill to have some really nasty diseases. Yes it does take some time for the pill to work and i can't believe your doctor did not tell you this. How long do I have to wait to have unprotected sex?
