What's the difference between intercourse and sex?

I've been reading different answers and they're saying stuff like intercourse and sex. What's the difference? What's the difference between intercourse and sex?Sex is the whole act and foreplay. Intercourse is the actual penetration. . . .at least that is what i think. What's the difference between intercourse and sex?
Intercourse is the full on act, penetration vaginally and all that. Sex includes other acts, (but not normally unless stated) Oral Sex, Anal Sex and such. But for most cases they are both the same, sometimes written as sexual intercourse. What's the difference between intercourse and sex? They have the same meaning. For example when I am with my mature friends I say intercourse. When I am with my ghetto friends I say sex.
in intercourse the penis has to enter the vagina.

but there are other ways to have sex.(without getting pregnant)What's the difference between intercourse and sex?the sameWhat's the difference between intercourse and sex?
Sex can actually be a few different things. Sex can be anal, oral, or intercourse. Intercourse is vaginal sex, which means, a penis goes inside her.
they are the same thing people just think it sounds better to say intercourse or more properWhat's the difference between intercourse and sex?
intercourse is the posh term for sex.
Nothing...its the same thing...
"Sex" is short for "Sexual intercourse". So not much.
They are the same thing.
it's just the same thing...
(Sexual ) intercourse is when the penis penetrates the vagina. "Sex" is the shortened or slang version of the phrase.

"Sex" can mean anything of a sexual nature up to and including penetration, depending on what the writer or speaker is attempting to relate.
No difference both are the same.
same thing!!!
basically they are the same

my opinion sex is just lust and intercourse is intimacy
holy crap .. how old are you?
Its the same thing intercourse is the word the doctors use instead of saying sex, but it means the same thing.
same thing
Sex is participating in ANY sexual activity; Be it manual stimulation, oral stimulation, anal, or intercourse.

Intercourse is just one form of a sexual act.

Sex and intercourse have been confused to mean the same thing for two main (and severly outdated) reasons.

1) Intercourse is the only kind of sex had by some people who find other sexual acts indecient and/or immoral.

2) Boys have long falsey implied that if they didn't have intercourse, that they did not have sex, in order to get girls to go 'all the way'.

Intercourse can be sex, If it is the lone act. Sex can be had in a variety of ways that do not need to include intercourse.Sexual activity is sexual activity. Intercourse is but one piece to the puzzle.

I hope this clears things up for you.

Cheers :-)
they are just the same in meaning.

but its to awkward to use the word "sex"

its a Laymans term.

it would be better to use intercourse in writing
It is possible to have sex without intercourse.

Intercourse suggests a specific act. To my knowledge it means, insertion.

But sex, can be a variety of different things, including or not including intercourse. I won't get too descriptive here but I think you know what I mean.

Just remember that unless you are careful a baby can come from intercourse. But not all sex acts constitute that risk. be careful out there always, wear your rain coats.

And be true to yourself!
there isnt one
just terminology. same thing.

medical/professional terminology is intercourse.

sex is slang for intercourse.
vginal sex is intercourse.
There isn't a difference. Intercourse is sex and sex is intercourse.
